Post subject:  Season 10 Crystal Balls

So, almost 2 years since I took my sabbatical from the game, the infectious lure of the unparalleled event that is team building was too much of a draw to ignore, I therefore found myself perusing over the latest semblance of pixel powered methanol heads.....only to be caught in the act by Tintin  !

I was a little shocked that this section had not been renamed 'Craig Corner' or 'Rico's Ramblings', so with renewed Journalistic enthusiasm, only ever found inside Unk's world, I decided to post my thoughts on how the teams have fallen once the deck was shuffled.

It is very refreshing to see a lot of new faces...something that always hindered the game in the past, and long may it continue. The new guys are so key to the longevity of the game, as it embarks on it's 10th pulsating season, and I wish them all the best of luck.

So onto the teams - 9 in all, another positive, and a pretty good looking pool as well with some very well seasoned riders to pick from should a team fall short.

Led once more by the daddy of all Cows Rico. With old hands SR & Henners to back him up, and Muffy who will always give you everything come race night, there will be enough to assist the middle order and newer members of this team to always keep the opposition on their toes. Last season Hyde Road just didn't do it for them, becoming a likeable racetrack, early home advantage was soon eroded. The choice of Ippo is a shrewd one, it is tight and technical, and straying off the line will quickly end your race...if your out of form, you do not want to be heading there !

My old pal Jamie leads the charge once more for the Icemen. He will be helped I am sure by Alf, another seasoned campaigner with massive know how. Rye House - another Marmite track, and one feared by lower order riders as it can be a nightmare even after you have practised it to death it will still catch you out on turn 1. Aside from Paul1529, I do not know much about the rest of the team, except for the return of the Yankie Doodle ..AKA Mudster (see what I did there Rico...I didn't call him by his pet name !) I expect their home advantage to do them well, and if the middle order and reserves get into the groove, they will not be beaten at home.

First thoughts on this had to be the return of the prodigal Scottish son Chrissy!
Sabres, a team missing from the league for some seasons now, and they look to have a great squad assembled by new captain Nikolai.
First glance at this team sheet and you have to be very afraid...a Top 4 which will tear most teams apart on their day, and on a track that has probably one of the hardest lines in the league....can't help thinking TK had a say in that one ! I think the team that has been carded have all got at least one full season under their belts, and this will prove handy in the opening exchanges until others find their feet. I expect them to be challenging for the top slots come March.

The Dragons this year will led by CJ, Like Unk, CJ has a long history with the Dragons, and it is hard to see him anywhere else. Another team which which sees some familiar faces in the ranks, and at Mildenhall again, should do well. Marecki will always spearhead the charge, and a strong middle order will certainly see them win more than they will loose. At time of writing they still had to complete their line up, and the 9th addition could be pivotal to their season.

Well what can you say - once again built on quality. Last season they led from day one and always looked likely winners. This season should be no different. Bwitcher has lured Bobby into the ranks, following the departure of Fozzie to the Pool, and that in itself speaks volumes. Both top quality riders, and I am sure Bobby will fill the Fozzy shoes with abundance. Pack in Mr. Pie himself, and the old fart Tintin and you can not see where this team will go wrong. They also have a good knack of bringing on the newer riders....which has been their strong point.

A very new look side in the Sharks, coupled with a new track for the league. I am thrilled to see Stefan returning for another season. He will have far much more fun on here than he did riding round that god damn awful Belle Vue track! 101 steps up into the management berth, and although still relatively young, he has bags of experience at the game, so it will be interesting to see how this season unfolds for him. I am sure with the likes of Hopster around to help if needed, this team could be a dark horse for S10.

Another team with a lot of old faces (most of them ugly!) ..and a bit of a Scottish trend going on again. Dons 101 will lead from the front, and rarely comes home without a double figure score anywhere, which is what you need from your No.1.
The middle order looks one of the strongest, with all the team having league experience (I think!) they should be compact unit. Scunthorpe has been the choice again, which to me does not give them a massive home advantage, as there are a lot of riders out there who ride it well, but this has an adverse effect when riding away from home where their form could be better than others on tricky tracks..

No real surprises at the top end of the warriors team sheet, with Tank going for the faces he trusts most in MiMi, Adz, and Spt, backed up by a good middle order of seasoned riders. Having a double world Champion in the ranks will always stand you in good stead for the season ahead. This year sees them depart Plymouth, and head North to Edinburgh, in my mind a slick move. Edinburgh is not a hard track, but it can be a cruel track at times, and for the less experienced riders they might struggle with the line at times. Most of his team will have a lot of laps under their belts round here, and it will show when facing newer riders. A solid team throughout, and I would not expect them to take a real beating at any point, but may be handing out a few.

Oh Craig, what have you done?? I know how much you love Exeter....but to inflict this track on the rest of the league is just plain cruel. I guess it was only a matter of time before it happened. It will be weird seeing Storm without Langers...never thought it would happen, but times change. The line up is a mix of old and new, so I can not really call this one. What I will say, is that if they all get to grips with Exeter, they will never be beaten at home, as this in my opinion the most advantageous home track in the league. Despised by most due the speed at which the turns come upon you, coupled with the narrowness of the track, it will be a graveyard for anyone not at the top of their game. It will prove a master stroke if it works, but could explode in Craig s face if his team fail to come to terms with its quirks, and end up hating it as much as most do!

There you have unbiased review, sorry if I did not get it bang on, but I am not so up to speed on all the new faces from the last 2 tip for the top spot this year, has to be the Pies once again, closely followed by Sabres & Storm if it works !

Mav!!!!

Absolutely fantastic to see you on here again fella. Great little write-up too although it has to be said that my input on track choice was minimal. The other Sabres obviously just share my impeccable taste

Btw only returned home from hospital last night & it is going to take a few days to return to some kind of normality - well - normality(ish) subject to the vocal chords and body fluids of our newborn. I will respond to your email, and catch up with events on here, over the coming days.
